I read in the Wall Street Journal yesterday (a publication I happen to admire) about steep prices in Naples, Florida. Sounds kind of funny because most of the headlines generally in papers around the country write about plunging prices, lost value, not expensive prices – but ok, let’s follow along. What about affordability here?
The Wall Street Journal headline read “Retire Here, Not There: Florida …. Naples beyond your budget? Here are four more affordable retirement havens in the Sunshine State.”
Are you kidding me? There are so many housing options and price points in Collier County I do not know where to begin. Did you know Collier County is the largest county east of the Mississippi? Just due to our size we have all sorts of options – and they all come with Florida sunshine, a short drive to The Gulf of Mexico and oh yea, the people are pretty great too.
This morning there are 508 properties in the Naples area Sunshine MLS for sale for $100,000 or less. There are 1,936 properties for under $200,000. And as a specific example, how about two bedroom condos on Tom Fazio’s first golf course in Florida with a shuttle to a private beach on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico – for under $200,000.
I fully realize $100,000-$200,000 is still a lot of money, but a place close to the ocean, with weather with occasional frosts but no freeze near the water – in December – and the absolute beauty of the place – Big Cypress, The Everglades, the thousands of barrier islands, sea turtles nesting on the beach, dolphin hunting in our bays, bald eagles out fishing – and the culture wrapped around the place – botanical gardens, performing arts, great restaurants, non-profit work. Wow. Sure we have multi-million dollar properties but that does not mean ALL of Naples is expensive – finding a place down here for yourself and your family might be easier than the Journal article implies. Check us out – you might find a wonderful place down here for yourself in the Florida sunshine.
