In real estate, we often work with people that are selling a second home, downsizing, or are simply moving and have items that they no longer have a need for. Even in times of spring cleaning or a home renovation, we find ourselves with perfectly good items that no longer work in our space. Luckily, there are charities around town that can put these items to good use, including Habitat for Humanity of Collier County’s ReStores. We like working with Habitat for several reasons. One, they make donating items very easy with pick-up services and secondly, we agree with their mission “to empower struggling families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.” When you donate to Habitat Collier ReStore, you keep your item from going to waste and provide a funding stream to build affordable homes for hardworking families in our community. You can also receive a tax deduction for your donation.
So, how DO you donate?
To take advantage of their multi-room and large item pickup service, all you need to do is call at 239-732-6388 or fill out the request form at habitatstores.org. The team will contact you, ask for a list of items that you want to donate, and they may ask a few questions about those items to ensure that they fit the donation criteria. For example, they generally don’t accept ripped, torn, broken, or stained items or items in certain categories. Then, the team will coordinate a day and time to come to your home or business and pick up the items you’d like to donate. Their team is careful to follow all COVID-19 safety precautions, including wearing masks when they show up to accept your items.
If you’d prefer to drop off your donations, you may do so at either of their ReStore locations. Please double-check to make sure that your items meet the donation criteria. Once you arrive at the store, you’ll see signs guiding you to the drop-off area.
What about purchasing items?
The ReStores have everything from furniture, to Waterford Crystal, tools, and appliances. On the day I stopped in, I found brand new bunk beds for under $300! As a bonus, they were already put together!
You may also shop online and order for curbside pick-up or check out their Facebook Page to see the latest offerings and sales. They recently offered 20% off everything for Memorial Day.
