Tuesday night after the Trinity by The Cove Fall gathering at the Port Royal Club we headed over to Ridgeway’s one of our favorite restaurants. Sure we have the big chain restaurants in town and a few private equity owned places but you cannot beat the charm and quality of a local proprietor owned restaurant.
As is his practice on some nights Tony Ridgway greeted us at the front and we talked about local business on third. Tony knows all about the restaurant business and he has proven his ability in good and tough times to navigate the waters of Naples fine dining with quality and creativity. The man loves to cook. Get him going on his creations and be delighted by a man who found his calling.
Tony’s 40th anniversary in Naples is coming up this November. Go out to their website and you will find Co-owner Sukie Honeycutt has scripted a wine list of more than 600 selections, including boutique and limited production wines, some so rare that they can be found in only a few places in the U.S. There are also 15 wines by the glass that represent great values from around the world. Wines are served in Riedel crystal glasses. Desserts and breads are fresh-baked every day at our own award-winning Tony’s Off Third bakery, which is adjacent to the restaurant. I had the coq au vin – one of my favorites off the regular menu. Maybe it was my french grandmother, or Tony’s good cooking, or the wonderful atmosphere – but a traditional french dish with some nice wine with friends is my idea of a nice ending to the day.
