A day on the water. What better way to spend a day than to venture out on the Gulf of Mexico with friends and enjoy time outdoors together? Yesterday my son and his girlfriend and I left the dock at about 9:30. passed through Gordon Pass and headed out twenty miles to drop anchor and fish for a while. Grouper and snapper abound, all too small to bring home this trip, but what a great time. What struck me was the florida sunshine on the water. Just once in your life you need to go offshore out of sight of land and take in the natural beauty. Just sit there, catch your breath and marvel. Simple fantastic and very renewing.
New to boating? Many a Naples captain can take you out fishing or exploring to start. You do not need your own boat to enjoy the water in Naples. If you join in the fun with our own boat you are free on your own schedule to explore the back country – birding, photography, fishing, camping and more. I have one friend, an avid photographer, who hires a fishing guide to take him into the Everglades and just snap photos. A stop at one of our waterside restaurants is fun for lunch. The more adventurous can head north to the barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva for long weekends, or we like to leave in the morning and head for Key West – 90 miles only and you can be there for lunch. And then of course the real fun, head over the horizon to the Bahamas or up the east coast of the United States and venture the big seas. Naples is a boater’s paradise and boating is just another way to live the Naples Lifestyle.
