Last week we headed down the east trail and attended a dedication ceremony for new Habitat for Humanity (HFH) homes. HFH Collier County is the largest affiliate in the United States – which astounds most of us thinking of the great wealth in town but the great need in the county. Wealth and need – that’s what makes this work. With generous people donating time and talent and treasure this Christ centered home building operation is working well. Some common misconceptions to clean up here first, the homes are not given away the folks BUY the homes AND they work 500 hours on the homes before buying. Secondly these are not illegal aliens – all are citizens and legal residents of the United States. So HFH Collier built 1350 homes (think 5000 residents in these homes) and made a real difference around here. By the way, these folks are our service industry – landscapers, waiters, Wall Mart workers – without affordable housing I am not sure Naples could sustain its lifestyle.
HFH is another example of local Naples people helping out – and yet another way you can add to your Naples lifestyle. Enjoy the sun and the fun sure, but think about giving back some of it too.
