Are you kidding me? We have another way to enjoy the Naples lifestyle! Head out on to the water enjoy some boating, fishing and yes folks even lobstering.
The spiny lobster is about to grace the table of many a local sports enthusiast with the arrival of the Florida lobster “short season.” The last consecutive Wednesday-Thursday in the month of July welcome in lobster short season every year. Find your friends, get a boat and get out there.
How do you catch a Florida lobster? Well for starters you are going to need a small net, a “tickle stick”, a good set of lungs to dive with and some luck. Lobsters are bottom lovers and to go after them you will need to dive down there, find the tell-tale spines sticking out from their hiding place and with one hand give them a tickle with the stick and with other hand catch them in the net.
(off we go to the keys!
Sounds easy right? Well not so fast. I highly recommend going with a guide or some experienced friends for your first time out. Boat safety and Diving safety are requirements so get your training, get your licenses and be safe out there.
This week we are heading down to the middle keys in our trusty boat for a few days of diving and hopefully a lobster or two in the pot. We will see!
If the lobster fishing does not turn out (or even if it does!) why not enjoy some Mahi fishing while you are in the keys? We are hoping for good sea conditions so we can venture out into the Stream, find a weed line and see if we can lure in some Mahi. More on this later!
(why not take in some Mahi fishing while you are in keys!)
