This week a good friend and past business partner invited me down to the Ocean Reef Club on Key Largo as his guest in the Reef Cup – a fishing tournament I have heard about and frankly dreamed about for some time. Fishing is my kind of sport – outside, with friends and these beautiful atlantic sails are released to swim again – a great time is had in the wonderful outdoors. For twenty-seven years now they have competed for the Reef Cup – four days of fishing for Atlantic Sails and plenty of fun in the process.
The Keys are a 90 mile boat ride or a 3-4 hour car ride. A chain of islands with a culture like no other stretching across southern florida – diving, fishing, swimming in a tropical paradise. I love the idea of Naples Florida where you live in a wonderful community but can take a short jaunt out of town and add to the fun.
For my trip to Ocean Reef on Key Largo I headed east to Miami, took the right turn down the old way on US 1 put on a Neil Young tune, hopped over on Card Sound road and rolled down the windows and just marveled at the mangroves growing along the road, the bird life, the water views and oh that sunshine and warmth in the middle of January.
I am here for a few days this week – so if you can put up with it I will report back on the fishing tournament. The important thing to note is anyone can enjoy this paradise. Come on down and see for yourself truly amazing.
I am going up top to enjoy the evening sky and hang out with my friends before turning in. Ah the Naples lifestyle – one which allows a short trip to some fantastic spots to add to the variety of Naples living.
