The crowds are starting to stream in. This is the time of year when our fair hamlet increases in population from around 80,000 full timers to over 350,000 souls in high season. Dinner at the club last week went from 10-15 persons to 180, traffic is picking up, the beaches are soaking up the tourists and the shop keepers are smiling brightly.
But there is more to the story. According to the recent Manhattan Institute Study Florida ranked number one in full time immigration from 1990 to 2010. No – the top state it is not California – California lost 3.5 million souls in the same period. Our wonderful climate, our more youthful population ( we are not a state of old folks anymore) and our conservative fiscal policies appeal to many (please see
